Joe McDonald
After a 20 year career as an actuary, Joe has tutored for 13 years and is a 2-time Reader’s Choice Best Tutor award winner. He has helped more than 450 students and 6,000 hours, including students from 17 states and over 1,000 hours online. He is a professor at Illinois State University, faculty advisor for its Math Tutoring Club, and a certified substitute teacher for high school. A sports fan and former basketball coach, he also enjoys performing musical theatre.

She was also a tutor at Heartland Community College’s tutoring center. She is now teaching a class as a retired annuitant at Illinois State University. When her children were growing up, she tutored many students and was the volunteer for the gifted and talented program. She is also certified as a substitute teacher for Unit 5 and District 87. Outside of academia, she loves swimming, traveling, cooking, and eating different cuisines!

Rujuta Durwas

Rujuta is a recent graduate of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, a college prep high school, and an incoming freshman at Loyola University Chicago where she will be majoring in biology on the pre-medicine track. She has been a teaching assistant at the Kumon Math & Reading Center of Bloomington for the past four years, worked as a Growth Hacking Intern to develop a speech curriculum for students with speech impediments, has been a Cohort Mentor and Teacher for the clubs’ Allies and Girls IN2 STEM for students in elementary/middle school, and helped teach with the North-South Foundation by creating math problem sets, lessons, and tests. Rujuta has also taken part in competitive swimming for 10 years and student research opportunities at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She loves working with students of all ages and will gladly help them with anything she can!

Cesiley is a graduate student at Illinois State University (ISU) in the mathematics program and will confer a Master of Science in May 2024. Her responsibilities include running lab sessions for MAT 119 college algebra and assisting students in the math tutoring center. Mathematics is her passion! She anticipates acceptance into a university for a Ph.D. program in pure mathematics beginning fall 2024. Cesiley has tutored mathematics since 2022 and has attained an internationally recognized tutoring certification by completing training courses through the university college program. Outside of her research interests she enjoys travel and playing on her banjo.

Lydia is an ISU student now pursuing her Psychology Bachelor’s degree in Bloomington. She is striving to finish her undergraduate studies and earn a master’s degree in sports psychology. Lydia has been tutoring students for more than 3 years. She spent roughly 14 years as a volleyball player growing up and now just enjoys being active whenever she can. She enjoys working with people of all ages and offering her assistance whenever and wherever she can!
